About Tainted Canvas

First off, thanks for stopping by my small corner of the Internet. My hope is that you find something that challenges, intrigues, or pushes your faith forward in the Divine. This blog works as a conversation, so I encourage you to participate and comment so we can grow as an online community (even if this is your first time here).

So. About me. My name is Jonathan Sigmon (nickname: Siggy) and I am a youth, worship, and technology pastor at a fantastic church in Rochester, New York. You can read the longer story of my journey here, but the short story is I began working as an executive in the music industry, but God was calling me to vocational ministry. I don’t claim to have all (or most) of the answers, but I do believe that there is no better way to live than the way of Jesus of Nazereth. I am devoted to his way of restoration, justice, radical grace, forgiveness, peace, reconciliation, salvation, and most importantly, love.

I suppose this leads me to my [ever evolving] personal mission statement/daily prayer.

God give me the clarity, courage, and strength to be used in whatever way can make the largest impact for the Kingdom of God here on Earth. Help me invest in Jesus’ Way and be an active participant in his grand narrative of redemption.

Outside of my love of God, people, and the church, I am a huge fan of music (particularly indie rock), film (comedies and movies that make you think), fair trade coffee (it tastes better that way), basketball (if it’s a competition, I’m there), and laughing with friends. I enjoy young people and their ridiculousness, worshipping God through music or writing, and all things Apple. I like to play and watch sports, eat my grandma’s spaghetti sauce, my fantastic wife, and sarcasm. Seriously.

Alright. I’m sure you’ve had enough by now. Enjoy your stay here at Tainted Canvas as we explore how to paint a beautiful picture on the broken canvas of this planet, and continue to participate in God’s story of redemption.
